Looking at yourself through others’ eyes

29 04 2012

One of the most interesting thing I have realized while being an alien in the US is how my culture or other similar cultures are viewed and how history is interpreted differently depending on the point of view of the host culture.

It is interesting to find how others see your culture and how their and your perceptions change with knowledge and exposure to others. You are so used to your culture and your language and when you hear how other’s see it, Read the rest of this entry »

Religious Extremists

26 03 2012

I am thinking that I might be a middle of the way kind of person, not a liberal not a conservative, I agree with both sides and disagree with both.

One of the things I like about the US is the freedom, of speech, religion, politics, you can have your own beliefs and that is respected. Actually that is one of the founding principles of this country.

What scares me are religious extremists, those people who oppress Read the rest of this entry »

Great example from Dearborn Michigan

24 04 2011

The people of Dearborn, MI gave us a great example of unity and how we can all coexist, live together in harmony. A certain pastor wanted to come and protest in front of the Islamic Center of America. This “Pastor” that likes to incite hate is no different from any other religious radical that believes that only his/her point of view is valid and everybody else is wrong. He burnt the holy book of the Muslim faith and incited protests against the US…irresposible.

Turns out that the people of Dearborn, well not just Dearborn, people came from all over the state and the country; people form all different religions, Christians, Muslims and Jewish, joined arm and arm to support their brothers and sisters. This makes me proud of my fellow humans.

One of the speakers said it best, we stand here not as Jewish, Muslims or Christians, we stand here as Americans!!!

What’s up with the Jews?

19 01 2009

I have been trying to understand why some people hate Jewish people so much and I do not understand. Throughout history different groups have had it against them and I would like to know why.

I have searched and read books and can’t find a satisfactory answer. I read that Hitler used the “they killed Jesus” excuse, which I have heard from some Christians.

Really, the killed Jesus, really?!?!?! That is your excuse? Maybe you might not want to rember that Jesus was Jewish… And further more, are you going to blame a entire group of people for the doings of a small group?

Now the Arab world, do they hate Jews because of the creation of the State of Israel? Why do they deny that the Holocaust happened? does anybody know?

If there is somebody out there that can explain to me, why this group of human beings has been singled out by so many different groups over the years, please let me know.

Why?

12 Steps to raise a juvenile delinquent

19 03 2008

These comes from a leaflet from the Houston Police Department. It is apparently very old, there has been a little update. I believe it still applies.

  1. Begin with infancy to give the child everything he/she wants. In thins way he/she will grow up to believe that the world owes him/her a living.
  2. When he/she picks up bad words, laugh at him/her. This will make him/her think that it is cute.
  3. Never give him/her any spiritual training. Wait until he/she is is twenty-one and then they can decide for themselves.
  4. Avoid the use of the word “wrong”. He/she may develop a guilt complex. This will condition him/her to believe later, when he/she is arrested , that society is against him/her and he/her is being persecuted.
  5. Pick up everything he/she leaves lying around. Do everything for him/her so that he/she will be experienced in throwing all responsibility on others.
  6. Take his/her side against neighbors, teachers, and policemen. They are all prejudiced against your child.
  7. Quarrel frequently in the presence of your children. In this way they won’t  be so shocked when the home is broken up later.
  8. Give the child all the spending money he/she wants. Never let them earn their own.
  9. Satisfy his/her every craving for food, drink, and comfort. See that his/her every sensual desire is gratified.
  10. Let him/her read any printed material, what any movie or TV show, and listen to any music he/she can get his/her hands on. Be careful that the silverware and drinking glasses are sterilized, but let their mind feast on garbage.
  11. When he/she gets into real trouble, apologize to yourself by saying, “I could never do anything with him/her.”
  12. Prepare for a life of grief. You will likely have it.
